A34 March and April

This web site is about the beauty of the flowers and insects to be found along a short stretch of the A34 on the south side of Newbury in Berkshire.

The road caused much controversy during its planning and building.

The construction also created a new footpath (alongside a stretch of the dual carriageway) and a new permissive path linking this with the Kennet and Avon canal towpath.

I found myself often taking pictures of the wildlife alongside the A34 and decided to put this web site together to show the abundance of life, right beside and underneath this new road.

It has been fascinating for me to learn the names of the flowers I have been photographing, as well as other facts and details. I have beed amazed at the variety of different plants. If you have any further information about the plants and insects pictured (especially misidentification) please pass them on to me and I will endeavour to update the site.

The images are a mix of a catalogue of the different flowers I have come across and just pictures which try and capture the beauty that is out there.

The images are grouped roughly by month, use the arrows above the images to change to the next, or you can scroll through the thumbnails on the left side. It is best viewed at 1024 x 768 resolution.

Please enjoy.
